Czech football association to buy Prague’s Strahov stadium
The Czech Physical Training Association plans to sell Strahov stadium in Prague to the Czech Football Association. The dilapidated Strahov complex, which includes two sport stadiums and various sport facilities as well as a Coubertin hotel and the surrounding land, will cost the football association CZK 128.5m.
“The maintenance of the Strahov complex swallows an average of CZK 16m annually. We lack funds to invest into it. Football is the only sport which is able to raise the funds from the FIFA and UEFA grant programs,” the head of ČSTV Miroslav Jansta told the server Insider. The football association had originally hoped to build a national stadium at the site, but tabled the idea when the economy soured. Local media reports are now speculating that the association may try to revive its plans once the sale is finalized.
