Equa Bank forcibly shut down the systems at night, clients had incorrect amounts in their accounts
Equa bank had to shut down its banking systems unplanned tonight, as incorrect amounts began to appear on its clients' accounts on Saturday. Now the systems are working again, said bank spokeswoman Kateřina Petko. Errors in the amounts displayed ranged in the millions of crowns.
"Equa bank had to proceed with an unplanned shutdown of the banking systems, which took place on August 7 at 11:11 pm and ended on August 8 at 4:59 am. The shutdown was caused by technical problems on the part of the bank, when there was a short-term "error, which subsequently caused the incorrect amount of balances on client accounts to be displayed. Now all our systems are fully functional," said the spokesperson. According to her, the accounts of the vast majority of clients are now fully functional and in order.
The problems were manifested by the display of incorrect amounts in the accounts of some clients. One of them said that on Saturday night he had on his account an amount more than 100,000 crowns higher than he should have originally had, and his brother even three million crowns higher. On the other hand, the error reduced the balance on the account of other clients, which could possibly cause them problems with some acute card payments. According to the client, the bank has not yet informed its customers about the problems; on the telephone infoline, the operator only advised him to block the card.
According to Petko, the bank is now intensively saving the situation, even with its system supplier. However, he does not yet know the exact causes or the number of clients affected by the error. According to the spokesperson, the bank handles cases where clients have made a transaction with incorrect amounts in their accounts during the critical period of a transaction. According to Petko, clients who record any discrepancies in their accounts even after the outage should contact the bank's client center or their banker at the branch.
Equa bank is one of the smaller banks. In February of this year, Raiffeisenbank International (RBI) bought one hundred percent of Equa bank shares from AnaCap Financial Partners. Equa bank focuses, among other things, on consumer loans and serves approximately 480,000 customers. Due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, Equa bank's year-on-year consolidated net profit fell by 55 percent to CZK 182 million.
